Ollie the Owl woke up as the sun went down.
“Time to fly!” he hooted cheerfully.
He spread his wings wide and soared into the night sky.
“Look at the big, round moon!” Ollie exclaimed.
Ollie was a nocturnal animal, which meant he loved the night.
His big eyes helped him see in the dark.
“Who else likes the night?” Ollie wondered.
He looked around to see if he could find some friends.

Ollie saw a raccoon rummaging through the bushes.
“Hello, Raccoon! Do you enjoy the night too?” he asked.
“Yes, I do!” said the raccoon. “I look for food when it’s dark.”
Ollie flapped his wings and flew a bit higher.
Next, Ollie saw a bat fluttering by.
“Hi there, Bat! Why are you out at night?” Ollie asked.
“I catch insects when it’s dark,” said the bat.

Ollie flew even higher, closer to the moon.
“Wow, the moon looks different tonight,” Ollie noticed.
Last night, it was a crescent, but now it’s full.
“Isn’t the moon amazing?” Ollie asked the stars.
The stars twinkled back as if to say, “Yes!”
Ollie felt happy and wise for understanding the night better.

With a contented hoot, Ollie headed back home.
“Goodnight, moon and stars,” he whispered softly.
Ollie perched on his favorite tree and closed his eyes.
He dreamed happy dreams of his nighttime adventure.
The end.
