“Did you hear about the spooky noises in the old library?” Lily asked, her eyes wide with excitement.
“Yeah, my brother said he saw flickering lights too,” replied Max, bumping shoulders with her as they walked to school.
Lily, Max, and their friend Sophie lived in the small town of Pinehill. Everyone knew everyone, and tales of spooky happenings were always around.
The old library, with its dusty books and dark corners, had become the center of these tales. “We should check it out,” Sophie suggested.

“Are you sure?” Max asked, his voice trembling a little. “What if there really are ghosts?”
“We will never know unless we go,” Lily said, determined and brave. They planned their visit for the following afternoon.
“Bring flashlights,” Sophie reminded. “And maybe some snacks!”
The next day, they met at the old library gates.

“This place looks even creepier up close,” Max whispered. Pushing the door, it creaked open slowly.
“Don’t be scared,” Lily encouraged. They stepped inside, flashlights illuminating the dusty shelves.
Suddenly, they heard a faint whispering sound. “Did you hear that?” Sophie asked, clutching her flashlight tighter.
The sound grew louder. “Who’s there?” Lily shouted.
From behind a shelf, an old librarian appeared. “I’ve been expecting you children,” he said, smiling kindly.

The children blinked, surprised. “You’re not a ghost?” Max said, relieved.
“No, just an old man who loves this library,” the librarian chuckled. “The flickering lights and noises are from faulty wiring and old pipes.”
“But why the whispers?” Sophie asked.
“Probably the wind through the cracks,” the librarian said. “But it’s lovely to see young kids interested in this place.”
The children smiled, feeling both relieved and a bit silly. “Can we help fix things here?” Lily asked.
“That would be wonderful,” the librarian answered. And so, the kids became heroes of the Pinehill library, solving the “ghostly” mystery and helping to restore the old building.
The end.
