“Look at all these nuts!” said Squirrel with a grin.
He was busy gathering acorns from the big oak tree.
“Why do you need so many?” asked Bird from a branch.
Squirrel laughed, “I’m going to hide them for winter!”
“Hide them?” asked Bird, hopping closer. “How come?”
“It’s so we have food when it’s cold,” Squirrel replied.
“Can I help?” Bird chirped, flapping his wings excitedly.
“Of course!” said Squirrel. “Let’s make it fun.”
Squirrel loved finding nuts and acorns every fall.
His forest friends knew he was the best at it.
Squirrel said, “When the snow covers the ground, food is hard to find.”
“But what if you forget where you hide them?” asked Bird.
Squirrel giggled, “I never forget! My nose is super smart.”
Bird tried to remember things he kept forgetting.
He wanted to be smart like Squirrel, too.
“Maybe you can teach me,” Bird suggested with a smile.

Squirrel and Bird scurried around, picking up the nuts.
“Where should we hide the first ones?” asked Bird.
“How about near the flower bush?” Squirrel suggested.
“That way, we remember the pretty flowers and find them.”
They dug tiny holes and placed the nuts inside.
Bird chirped, “This is like treasure hunting!”
“Yes,” Squirrel nodded, “and we’re the pirates with secret maps!”
Squirrel used his little paws to pat the ground flat.

Suddenly, Rabbit hopped over, curious about their game.
“What are you two doing?” asked Rabbit, ears twitching.
“We’re hiding nuts for winter!” said Bird proudly.
“I want to help!” said Rabbit, clapping his paws.
“Great! The more, the merrier!” Squirrel cheered happily.
Together, they scampered around, making more secret stashes.
Bird asked, “Does everyone in the forest hide food?”
“Many do!” said Squirrel. “It’s smart to be ready.”
“Then we’ll all be ready for winter!” Rabbit added.

As the sun began to set, the friends looked around.
“We did it!” Squirrel said with a happy sigh.
“We made the best nut stash ever!” Bird agreed.
Quietly, they promised to come back in the spring.
“We’ll find all our treasures when it’s warm again,” Rabbit said.
“It’s good to be prepared,” Squirrel nodded wisely.
“But for now, let’s play one last time!” Bird suggested.
They laughed and frolicked beneath the big, shadowy trees.
The end.
