Once in a forest, Sam the salamander played.
His tail twitched, and his eyes were wide.
“What’s that noise?” asked Sam the salamander.
“It’s a flutter, a flap!” he said.
Sam lived near a big green tree.
All the animals loved this tree.
The tree had fruit and flowers, too.
Birds, rabbits, and foxes lived here.
“Hello, fox,” said Sam the salamander.
“Hello, Sam,” replied the fox.

One day, the forest was quiet.
The animals were worried and waited.
“Why is it so quiet here?” Sam asked.
A little bird chirped, “I don’t know!”
“Let’s check the big green tree,” Sam said.
The animals followed Sam in a row.
They saw a branch stuck in the breeze.
The branch blocked the bird’s small house.

“I can help,” Sam said with pride.
Sam climbed to the branch quickly.
He wiggled, he pushed, and then he grinned.
The branch fell, and the birds cheered.
“Thank you, Sam,” said the happy bird.
“You’re our hero,” said the fox, too.

The forest was happy and bright again.
Sam was the bravest salamander of all.
“Let’s play together!” said Sam to friends.
They ran, they jumped, and they laughed.
The animals knew they had a friend.
Sam the salamander was their hero.
The end.
